2026 「池泉牡丹」日程のお知らせ
毎年ご好評をいただいております、
日本一の牡丹の産地だから実現できる一大イベント、
池泉牡丹のスケジュールをお知らせいたします
3万輪の池泉牡丹
４月２９日(水祝)～５月６日（水祝）の開催を予定しております。
大根島は日本一の牡丹苗の生産地。接ぎ木牡丹苗は現在、年間70万本ほどの生産が行われています。
牡丹苗のうち全体の約80パーセントは海外輸出用の花をつけない初年生株です。
また、国内販売用の株は株を太らせることが目的のため、開花前に蕾（つぼみ）を摘んでしまいます。つまり大根島の農家は牡丹の花ではなく苗を育てているのです。
しかし、牡丹の花がまったく咲かないという訳ではありません。由志園の農業生産法人では、周辺農家と協力し、母木（ぼぎ）を多数保有しています。母木とは接ぎ木に使う大株です。品種交配などの目的で数年に一度、開花させます。毎年、開花させる花数はゆうに数万輪を越えます。
その摘んでしまった牡丹を用いて由志園の池泉に三万輪の牡丹を浮かばせています。
百花の王と称された牡丹の花。副産物の花をふんだんに使える日本一の生産地ならではのイベントです。

“Floating peonies” Event Schedule Announcement
Held annually, this event is always met with great enthusiasm.
Made possible as Daikon Island is Japan’s leading producer of peonies, we are delighted to reveal our “Floating peonies” event’s schedule.
No less than 30,000 peonies will be used!
From April 29 to May 6 of 2026
Daikon Island is Japan’s largest producer of peony seedlings with no less than 700,000 grafted peony seedlings being produced annually. Approximately 80% of these seedlings are first-year plants grown for overseas export and do not produce flowers.
For seedlings sold in Japan, the focus is on strengthening the plant. The buds are removed so the plant can bloom better later. In this sense, it is accurate to say that peony farmers on Daikon Island are producers of seedlings rather than flowers.
However, this does not mean that peonies never bloom here. Yuushien Garden’s agricultural production team works with surrounding farmers and maintains a large number of mature peony plants used for grafting. These “mother plants” are allowed to bloom once every few years, primarily for variety crossbreeding. Each year, the number of flowers that bloom often exceeds tens of thousands.
Otherwise wastefully discarded, the peonies, known by many as the “King of Flowers”, are instead hailed in all their glory at our “Floating peonies” event.
